I have been working as PA-C for almost 3 weeks now. The first two days were for orientation. After that, I began seeing patients. At first I only saw 1-2 patients a day, but that soon increased to 5-6 patients a day and then 8-10 patients. It feels super slow, but it is also nice because it gives me a chance to learn the computer system and proper protocols in our clinic without being overwhelmed by my patient volume. I am growing more confident every day and loving my job more and more.
Here is my office:
I have another desk out in the clinic next to patient rooms.
I am currently working for a federally qualified health center. This means we provide services to persons of all ages, regardless of their ability to pay or health insurance status. It gets more complicated, but you can read more about it online if you are interested.
I am one of several PAs here and I work on a team with a physician, 2 other PAs, nurses and lots of supportive staff.
It is a great job and I am really enjoying it so far. It is a little scary to be on my own for the first time, but someone is always around to run ideas by or ask questions.
What questions do you have for a new graduate?
