My first AAPA Conference

AAPA Conference

I went to my first AAPA (American Academy of Physician Assistants) conference at the end of May, which was held in San Francisco.

I had no idea what to expect, but it was super fun.  They had multiple lectures/presentations set-up throughout the day, so we could pick which topics we wanted to learn about more.  The speakers I heard were really great and all of the sessions were interactive, meaning the speaker would quiz the audience and you could text in the answer.

When we were not in a session we got to explore the city…so it felt a little like a vacation too.  Let me just say, the food in San Fran is amazing.  We ate at one restaurant called The Stinking Rose: A Garlic Restaurant, and I have definitely never eaten so much garlic in one setting.  Delicious.

We made it to the beach via Golden Gate Park.

On the way to the beach we got to watch a yo-yo competition.

We also made it to Fisherman’s Wharf and discovered this surprise. The sea lions at Pier 39 were so entertaining.

The pier also gave us a great view of alcatraz island…which we couldn’t tour because tickets were sold out until almost August.

The conference hosted fun things to do as well.  One of the nights, for instance, they had what was called Challenge Bowl.   This is like quiz bowl for physician assistant students.  It was crazy and so much fun (as you can see from the picture below)!

Next years conference is in San Antonio, Texas!
