I am getting quite a few emails lately about PA school and unfortunately I am totally behind on all things blog related. However, I only have 5 weeks left of my didactic year and then I am on to clinicals! This also means more free time! Yay!
Here is a recent reader question: “I will be starting PA school this summer and was just wondering if you had any advice on how I could prepare before I start school or things I can do to become more prepared.”
And here was my answer:
As for preparing for PA school, I would actually recommend… relaxing! Visit family, do any projects you’ve been wanting to do, read a book, travel, etc. You could study, but in the end it won’t make that big of a difference.
However, if you are like me and you just can’t help yourself I would recommend either getting more shadowing experience or doing a little light studying in an area that you are interested in learning more about. For example, if you think diabetes sounds interesting just read some websites about it and get familiar with the topic.
Here are a few of my favorite websites:
- Professor Fink –this is a professor and I think his lecture are great, but they are long videos
- Paul Bolin CRASH USMLE review website –this is great review website and a good way to get introduced to a topic
- Handwritten Tutorials –this is a basic website, but his videos are quick and easy to follow
I hope this helps!! Again, don’t be afraid to relax and just enjoy yourself for a couple of months. You won’t regret getting to do a few fun things before all the busyness of school starts.
Please let me know if you have other questions!
