A Typical Day In Physician Assistant School

A lot of people seem to wonder what a typical day is like in PA School, so I will try to answer.  My schedule is different every single day, but for the most part:

6:00 am (some days 5:00 am, it depends on how much studying I need to get done)I get dressed, water our plants, check my email, and check the weather/blogs while I wait on the espresso/coffee maker.

6:25 am:  I sit down with my cup of joe and read my Bible and pray.

6:45 am:  I start thinking about all I have to do for the day.  I read over my LI’s for the day and look up any additional information or questions I have about the subject.

7:00 am:  We walk over to the dining facility to have breakfast.

7:30 am:  I brush my teeth and finish going over my LIs for the day.  I double check my email again (because my professors are always changing the schedule around at the last minute).

7:50 am:  I hurry around trying to get my lunch packed and everything I need gathered together for the day.

8:05 am:  I say a quick prayer with the hubs and start walking to school.

8:20 am:  I arrive at school and talk with my classmates about any questions I have about LIs or lectures.  I go through flashcards while I wait for everything to get started for the day.

8:30 – 9:00 am:  Tutor group or lecture starts.  This continues with minimal breaks, maybe a couple of 15 minutes breaks to run to the bathroom or zap your lunch.

We have tutor group MWF from 8:30 – 12:30 and lectures in the afternoon.  On Tuesdays we have lectures all day or skills practice.  Thursdays we are in mentor clinic and we have anatomy lab time.

3:30-4:30 pm:  Classes are over and I start walking home.  I start working on my LI’s for the night and I can usually get one done before Dennis gets home. They take at least an hour to write and we have 2-4 LI’s three times a week.

4:30 pm:  Dennis comes home and I chat with him for a couple of minutes about his day and then we walk over to the dining hall for dinner.

5:00 pm:  I start working on my LI’s again or if it was a lecture day I go over all the lectures and outline them.

9:00 pm:  Dennis comes home from work again and I usually look at the clock completely surprised at how late it is already.  (at this point we might sit down and watch a TV show or go for a walk if I am close to finishing)

9:30 pm:  I am almost finished with my LI’s and outlines, so I run take a shower.

10:00 pm:  We go to bed where he reads and I study or look over flashcards.

10:30 or 11 pm:  Sleep time!

Repeat!

So there you have it.  A day in the life.  Pretty boring.

  1. This is probably a rather blunt question…but I am going to enroll in PA school soon and I’m curious to know what you think about the cadaver dissection. What is it like and is it nerve racking or frightening?

  2. Where do you go to school? Do you live with your husband in a residence hall, do you have to or is it just convenient?

    • Living in a residence hall is required by my husbands job. We are provided with a fully furnished two bedroom apartment with kitchen, living room and dining. So it is convenient too. 😉
