Since having a break from school and seeing all the consumerism around me, I decided I needed to clean out my closet. Of course I went shopping first. Oh the irony.
Here is the before:
A little embarrassing.
We also have a dresser with 5 drawers. 4 of which are mine and 1 that belongs to the hubs. As you can see above, the drawers were full.
I pulled EVERYTHING out and tossed it on the bed.
I had baskets set-up to help with the purging. The maybe basket was for clothes I wasn’t sure about. If I hesitated for a second it had to go in that basket. If in a couple of months I still don’t miss these items, then they are gone too.
It took several hours and I only put back what I loved. I have one container of summer clothes and shoes on the top shelf of the closet.
I threw away a garbage bag full of stuff and 1 giant bag of stuff was donated.
It makes me sick to think of all the money I’ve spent or wasted on things. Fortunately and unfortunately, I almost exclusively buy things on clearance. Which means it was cheap, but it also means I get sucked into buying things I don’t need. I have also been buying all my jeans and pants at a consignment or thrift store. I seem to have an expensive taste in jeans, so my only option is buying used.
Okay, here is the AFTER:
Sorry for all the phone pics. I can’t stand far enough away with my camera to capture the closet.
My t-shirts and sweat pants.
My nicer cotton shirts and t-shirts.
It feels so awesome to get dressed in the morning knowing my closet is full of things I love. I am sure I still have way too many clothes and shoes, but I am making progress. I just have to remind myself when I am shopping to only buy things that I truly love. I am also going to remind myself that every time I turn down a new something, it is more money towards a house one day.
