It’s strawberry season! Fresh strawberries are abundant around here and I love it! We have been eating them constantly.
I decided to try a new recipe using strawberries and I am so glad I did!! This recipe contains simple ingredients, with a delicious impact. We will be making this again very soon.
Are my photography skills improving?? I sure hope so. The summer light helps.
Strawberry Orange Sorbet
4 cups strawberries, sliced
1 cup water
1 cup fresh orange juice plus the zest (5-6 oranges)
1/2 cup sugar
In a saucepan, bring the sugar, orange juice and water to a boil. Boil the mixture until the sugar dissolves (about a minute or so). Add the strawberries and the orange zest. Continue boiling for 8 to 10 minutes. Using a blender (a hand blender will also work) puree the mixture in batches. Then pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer (using a spoon to help it along). Let it come to room temperature and place it in the refrigerator to chill (I left ours in the fridge overnight). Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturer’s instructions. Don’t worry if the mixture seems a little slushy after you freeze it in your ice cream maker, it will harden up once you put it in the freezer (if you can resist eating it until then…)
